In addition to the cinder block gym walls, crews have begun work on the elevator shaft and the first section of the building. Steel beams are now being delivered and installed as framing for the new school takes shape.
This phase of construction will continue throughout the winter months as progress steadily marches on.
NOVEMBER
Progress is rising, literally, on the new North Canton Middle School at the 7th Street campus! Masons have been hard at work constructing the cinder block gym walls, and their efforts will continue steadily throughout the winter months.
Next up: steel beams will begin going up between Thanksgiving and Winter Break. This phase will also unfold over several months as the building’s framework takes form.
After more than a year of thoughtful planning and preparation, it’s exciting to see the future of our middle school start to take physical shape!
OCTOBER
To help relieve traffic on the north side of the Hoover campus, a new connection to Chapple Hill has been added for students to use during the school day. Once lighting installation is complete, the new traffic pattern will debut this fall, improving safety and visibility during dark hours.
Outside of school hours, gates will remain closed on both sides of the connection to reduce vehicle traffic for nearby residents and ensure a safe environment for pedestrians and bikers using the Hoover Trail.
AUGUST
Construction crews will begin work on the Chapple Hill connection to the district’s campus. This involves the installation of a new access drive, traffic gates, and a relocation of the Stark Parks Hoover Trail.
JULY
The site is pink flagged and ready, and you might even hear progress as the aggregate piers are driven into place to support the building’s footings—key to creating a strong foundation. Shoutout to Cavanaugh Building Corporation for laying the groundwork (literally!) for the future of NCCS!
JUNE
Grading and leveling of site. Utility lines/pipes are installed preparing for structure construction.
MAY
The community will begin to see activity at the site for our new middle school on 7th Street in front of Hoover High School. A construction fence will be in place soon and site preparation will begin.
APRIL
Soil samples were taken as part of the early process for site preparation to begin towards the end of May.
Facilities Project: Phase I Thank you, North Canton! We were able to welcome staff and students into our new North Canton Primary School and North Canton Intermediate School for the 2023-2024 school year!
