Posted Date: 5/05/25 (1:45 PM)

North Canton, Ohio (May 5, 2025) – At a special meeting held this morning, the North Canton City Schools Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Eric Bornstine, principal of Hoover High School, as the district’s new treasurer effective July 1, 2025.

Bornstine, who has worked in the district since 2016, was hired following the announcement earlier this month that current treasurer, Tim Walker, will begin his tenure as the district’s next superintendent in July. Current superintendent, Jeff Wendorf announced his retirement in early April. Similar to the hiring process for Walker, the Board of Education worked in partnership with the Stark County Educational Service Center, including counsel from Superintendent Joe Chaddock. The role was open to candidates internally and externally, with strong applicants expressing interest in the role, the Board of Education conducted extensive interviews prior to the vote this morning.

Bornstine has served North Canton City Schools since 2016 as principal of Hoover High School, where he successfully led strategic initiatives, enhanced community engagement, and implemented programs that strengthened academic performance and financial efficiency. Prior to his tenure at Hoover, he served as principal of Northwest High School and as associate principal at Wooster High School, consistently demonstrating leadership that blends educational excellence with prudent management practices.

"We are thrilled to have Eric transition into the role of treasurer," said Jessica Stroia, President of the Board of Education. "Eric has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and families. His deep financial acumen, integrity, and dedication to educational excellence make him an outstanding choice to steward the district's resources. We are excited to work alongside him in this new capacity."

Holding multiple advanced degrees from Ashland University and the University of Akron, Bornstine has completed licensure as a school treasurer and already holds licenses as a superintendent, principal, and teacher in mathematics and chemistry. His broad skill set includes strategic planning, levy campaign leadership, budget management, and the implementation of cost-saving measures that preserve essential programs while achieving significant financial savings.

“I am honored to continue serving the students, staff, and community of North Canton City Schools in this new role," said Bornstine. "I look forward to ensuring that our financial operations continue to support the high standards of achievement for which North Canton is known.”

Bornstine is an active member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials and the Ohio Association of Secondary Schools Administrators, reflecting his commitment to continuous professional development and best practices in school business operations.
