Short Lock-Down at NCMS

North Canton, OH (September 18, 2015)

Earlier today, a 6th grade student was caught with shotgun casings on their person at the North Canton Middle School.

NCMS was placed under a precautionary lock-down while the North Canton City Police searched the building to ensure there was no gun on the premises.

The search was concluded and no gun was found on the premises. The lock-down has since been lifted and end-of-the-day dismissals will proceed on schedule.

The safety of the students is our number one priority and we will continue to keep you informed as we have more details to provide. By keeping the lines of communication open among our students, staff, parents and community, it is our hope that the best interest of our students will be served. We thank you for your trust in our schools.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the North Canton Police Department at 330-499-5911.

***9/18/15 update***

No criminal charges are being pursued. This is considered a school disciplinary incident and all further inquiries should be directed to school administrators.

Please note the following correction: The spent shell casings were not from a shotgun, they were from a semi-automatic rifle.
