North Canton City Schools won the Web Marketing Association's 2015 WebAward for Standard of Excellence in the School category for its website, exceeding the industry average in the criteria of innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.

Hoover High School's March to State Ends, Concert Band Begins
Under the leadership of directors Mr. Ron Varn, Mrs. Ellen Varn, Mr. Tom Lewis, and Mr. Bruce Nist, the Hoover High School Marching Band worked hard to pull together a successful season by qualifying for States at every competition. The students’ hard work was recognized when the band was named Grand Champion at the competition in Louisville on September 19th.

North Canton Hoover Students Reach the Semi-Finals for the Teen Tech Tank Business Pitch Competition
Three Hoover High School business management students have made the top twenty semi-finalist round for the Teen Tech Tank business pitch competition in Northeast Ohio. Five finalists will be chosen and winners will have the opportunity to pitch their business idea to ABC's Shark Tank’s Daymond John.

North Canton Memorial Stadium and Soccer Field Evacuated Due To Police Emergency
Around 6:30 p.m. this evening, the North Canton Police Department requested the evacuation of North Canton Memorial Stadium and surrounding North Canton City Schools property for the safety of those in attendance. The North Canton Youth Football games in progress and the high school boys soccer games were cancelled.

Short Lock-Down at NCMS
NCMS was placed under a precautionary lock-down while the North Canton City Police searched the building to ensure there was no gun on the premises, after a 6th grade student was caught with spent rifle casings on their person at school. NCPD found no gun and lock-down was lifted.

NCCS Video-Journalism Secures $285K for “Mobile Storyteller”
This spring, North Canton Hoover High School Video-Journalism students will hit the road in their new, state-of-the-art “Mobile Storyteller,” a $285,000 project funded through grants from the Hoover Foundation, the Henry and Louise Timken Foundation, the State Farm Youth Advisory Board and a donation from Blackmagic Design Corporation.

Brief Lock-Down at North Canton Hoover High School
Earlier today, North Canton Hoover High School was placed under lock-down for a brief period of time by the North Canton Police Department, based on a report that a student may have been at the school with a gun. While the lock-down was in effect, the person of interest was spotted and apprehended by the NCPD while walking on a street in North Canton, not on school grounds. Greentown Bids Goodbye to Principal Capper
Roman Capper, current principal at Greentown Intermediate School, announced yesterday that he will be leaving North Canton City Schools at the end of this school year. At their Board of Education meeting last night, the Copley-Fairlawn City Board of Education approved the hiring of Capper as the principal of Arrowhead Primary School, effective August 1, 2015.

North Canton Police Department has released an update regarding the NCMS threat situation that transpired between February 11-13, 2015. The purpose of the release is to communicate the effect the incident had on the community and what has transpired with the investigation.

Hoover High School's nationally recognized visual arts program to display student work at Journey Gallery on Canton's First Friday on April 3, as well as at the Annual Stark County High School Show at the Canton Museum of Art in downtown Canton from March 28 - April 12, 2015.

Kennedy to Leave NCCS to Spend Time With Family
Assistant Superintendent Debra Kennedy plans to leave North Canton City Schools at the end of July, saying she is looking forward to spending more time with her young grandchildren. The district will be looking to fill the Assistant Superintendent role this summer.

Annual Summa Honors Celebration
​On Tuesday, March 24, the Hoover High School Sideliners will hold their annual Summa Honors celebration recognizing the Summa Scholars (seniors with a 4.325 GPA or higher) as well as their honored educators and parents. The event will be held at the Barrette Business Center at Walsh University, beginning at 7 p.m. with a dessert buffet.

Baum Named Varsity Football Coach for Hoover
Brian Baum was approved as the new head varsity football coach for Hoover High School at a special North Canton City School District Board of Education meeting on March 11. Baum will take over for Don Hertler, Jr. who was head coach from 1996-2014 for the Vikings.

Crisis Intervention Speaker at NCMS
North Canton Middle School will be having a guest speaker on Thursday, March 5th from 4:30 - 8 p.m. during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Carole Vesley is a crisis counselor for the Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center in Stark County. She also is serves as the chairperson for the Stark County Suicide Prevention Coalition.

Early Childhood Screening Program
The North Canton City School District will offer early childhood screenings for 3 or 4-year-old children who are residents of the North Canton City School District and are suspected of having a handicapping condition on Friday, March 20, 2015.

North Canton City Police maintain a watchful presence in North Canton City Schools again today as the investigation into the middle school threat situation continues. At all of our schools, NCCS staff continues to take every precaution to make sure that your child is in a safe learning environment each day. SITUATION UPDATE: Online Threat to North Canton Middle School
On Wednesday, February 11, at 8:52 p.m. the North Canton Police Department and the district received a tip through the district website’s Safety Hotline that there had been a shooting threat made on Ask.fm, an online social network that enables people to send questions to each other and answer them. The threat specifically mentioned that someone was going to shoot up the North Canton Middle School on Thursday, February 12, 2015.

SITUATION UPDATE 4:30 p.m. Re: Online Threat to North Canton Middle School
At 1 p.m. this afternoon, Superintendent Michael Hartenstein and North Canton Police Chief Stephan Wilder held a joint press conference at the High School. Over the next 25 minutes, they reviewed the information that was released earlier this morning and Chief Wilder answered questions about the investigation for an audience of 12 local reporters and cameramen.
