Our Priority: Safety of our Children

Despite the defeat of the safety and security levy, North Canton City Schools will be implementing new security measures for the 2018-2019 school year because we are committed to do what we can to provide a safe environment for our community’s children. Although we recognize that we are unable to provide the extensive safety measures we would like, we recognize that our children must take priority in our financial decisions. We will be hiring two school resource officers (SRO) who will travel around the district to monitor our seven school buildings.  Also, we have signed a contract with CommQuest Services to provide mental health counselors who will work three days a week at the high school and middle school, two days a week at Greentown and Orchard Hill and one day a week at Clearmount and Northwood. This year we have begun two mentoring programs, one at the middle school (WEB: Where Everyone Belongs) and one at Hoover (Link Crew). These programs will allow us to provide peer-to-peer support for sixth-graders and freshmen. In addition, we are implementing a visitor management system, School Safe ID, that will permit us to better screen visitors to all our school buildings. We have also installed and upgraded security cameras that allow us to track movements both in and out of our buildings. We will begin using Alertus, which is an emergency mass notification and crisis communication service that will allow us to share information with staff, students, parents and first responders. We will be investigating and implementing other programs in addition to Alertus, as we begin the 2018-2019 school year.
