Beginning this fall, the start and end times at the district’s seven school buildings will be adjusted. With the new elementary buildings opening in August of 2023, the district had hoped to make it one more year with the current schedule. However, the current shortage of school bus drivers and sub drivers has led the district to make a change for this upcoming school year.
In general, the earliest buildings (Hoover HS and North Canton MS) will start a few minutes earlier, while the latest buildings (Northwood and Clearmount) will end later. This change will allow more time for the buildings in between (Greentown and Orchard Hill) to complete their routes, and when needed, those drivers will be able to pick-up students at Northwood and Clearmount on time and deliver them home. This scheduling pattern is being instituted by many school districts across the country to address the bus driver shortage. And, as it pertains to North Canton, our bus driving times have increased slightly over the past 20 years with increased traffic and new traffic signals on our main routes such as Main Street/Cleveland Avenue, East Maple, and Everhard Road. Also, the construction project planned for Pittsburg Avenue will cause certain routes to experience delays and longer drive times.
Each building will be sending out updates to parents with more details such as specific times for those transported by parents to or from school.
