North Canton City Schools offers gifted services for students who are identified as gifted in superior cognitive ability, creative thinking, visual performing arts, and/or academic areas (math, reading, science, and social studies). Service options include:
- Cluster Grouping
- Honors or Enriched Courses
- Advanced Placement (AP)
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- College Credit Plus (CCP)
NCCS formal gifted program, led by Gifted Intervention Specialists, operates in grades 2-7, through the Jr. Galaxy, Galaxy, and Discover classes. In order to qualify for Jr. Galaxy, Galaxy, or Discover, students must be identified as gifted in superior cognitive ability. All students in 2nd and 5th grades are screened for superior cognitive ability gifted identification using the Cognitive Abilities test.
Students do not need to re-test or re-qualify for any of the classes led by Gifted Intervention Specialists; once identified, students automatically qualify for subsequent gifted classes
- Junior Galaxy- 2nd grade
- daily VIKE time at Clearmount and Northwood
- Galaxy- 3rd, 4th & 5th grade
- daily VIKE time at Greentown and Orchard Hill Intermediate
- Discover- 6th & 7th grades
- daily Social Studies class
