Parental involvement always has been a centerpiece of Title I and is defined by law as the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring
• that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning;
• that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school;
• that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in
decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child
North Canton Local schools believe that parent/guardian involvement is an important part of the educational program. Current research indicates that a home-school partnership and greater involvement on the part of parents/guardians in the education of their children generally result in higher achievement scores, improved student behavior, and reduced absenteeism. Schools and families must work as partners if the District is to meet its goal of effectively educating students.
The administration and staff will promote parent involvement by:
1. holding annual fall parent meetings to explain the Title I program, requirements and parent involvement activities;
2. explaining ways parents/guardians can support classroom learning activities and extend learning at home;
3. encouraging families to volunteer in schools and school related activities;
4. training parents and providing materials to work with their children at home;
5. supporting meaningful two-way communication between home and school;
6. sharing student progress to parents every nine weeks in addition to parent conferences;
7. providing support for parents who lack literacy skills or whose native language is not English;
8. annually assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of the Title I program and parent involvement activities and
9. communicating with parents on Board policies and regulations.
