Excellence with Efficiency!
Newsweek Ranking Creates Awesome Analysis

By now, I am sure that you have read or heard about the wonderful honor that Hoover High School earned through Newsweek Magazine’s Top 500 High Schools in the Nation ranking system. This ranking system included data on advanced placement tests taken and the scoring results of those tests, college matriculation, student-to-teacher ratio, and average SAT scores. When all of this data was combined in a weighted formula, Hoover High School was ranked number 357. What an honor when you consider the tens of thousands of high schools across the country. Add to this fact that there were only 19 high schools from Ohio who made the list and you have an even greater sense of honor!

When we learned that there were 19 high schools from Ohio, Mr. Todd Henne and Mr. Jeff Breit, two of our associate principals at Hoover High, began an analysis of the high schools in Ohio. One of the key data points that we researched was, "How much money, per pupil, do these 19 school districts spend?" This piece of data is called "Per Pupil Expenditure". We are excited and proud to share the following conclusion:

School District Per Pupil Expenditure
Cincinnati Indian Hill $15,372
Mayfield $13,940
Cincinnati Walnut Hills $13,449
Solon $13,169
Dublin Coffman $12,881
Dublin Scioto $12,881
Dublin Jerome $12,881
Cincinnati Mariemont $12,856
Chagrin Falls $11,912
New Albany $11,814
Cincinnati Madeira $11,292
Cincinnati Wyoming $10,977
Dayton Oakwood $10,788
Avon Lake $10,564
Cincinnati Anderson $10,289
Cincinnati Turpin $10,289
Olmsted Falls $9,650
North Canton Hoover $9,240
Bellbrook $8,961

What a revelation! We have achieved one of the highest rankings possible and spend second to the least per pupil to achieve these results when compared to the Ohio schools who made the list. Truly, this is "excellence with efficiency"!

I am proud to share that our families, students, staff, and community have valued this type of efficiency for decades. This type of "work ethic" and educational support by the community has translated into an honor such as this. Truly, the entire community of North Canton can take great pride in saying that they live in one of the highest-rated school systems in the country and do so with an efficiency that makes "cents"!

Congratulations, North Canton! We have put ourselves on the national map in a very efficient manner!
